Baila!
"Baila!" is a collection of oil paintings celebrating dance in Latinx culture. These pieces are inspired by the Limé dolls from the Dominican Republic that my mom used to collect. Growing up surrounded by them, I absorbed their energy before I understood their cultural weight. This series is my attempt to carry that forward: the joy, the movement, the way dance functions as both art and identity in Latino communities.

Some subjects choose you. I've returned to the Patterson Park Pagoda again and again: on film, on digital, in medium format, in oils with a palette knife, in watercolor, in gouache. Each time it gives me something different. This time, surrounded by cherry blossoms and rendered in oil pastels, it gave me warmth and explosion and light. A familiar landmark seen, once again, for the first time.
